Amazon’s New FBM Handling Time Rule Is Live: Here’s What to Fix First
Amazon’s latest handling time requirement is now active, and seller-fulfilled businesses need to pay attention.
Starting June 29, 2026, Amazon began requiring FBM sellers to keep the handling time assigned to each SKU aligned with how quickly that product actually ships. Setting a longer handling time “just to be safe” may now result in Amazon flagging or adjusting that SKU.
What Changed?
Handling time is the period between receiving an order and handing the package to the carrier.
Amazon now monitors whether your actual shipping behavior matches the handling time shown on your listings. Sellers have two main options:
- Enable Automated Handling Time.
- Maintain accurate handling times manually at the SKU level.
Amazon recommends Automated Handling Time because it uses recent shipping performance to update delivery promises. Sellers who prefer manual control must regularly review their SKU-level settings.
What Should Sellers Fix First?
Start with your highest-volume FBM products. These listings affect the largest number of orders and may expose your account to the most risk if the settings are inaccurate.
Compare each SKU’s stated handling time with its actual ship date. Look for products that regularly ship one or more days earlier than promised.
Amazon says it will monitor manually managed SKUs over a 30-day period. A SKU that consistently ships at least one day faster than its assigned handling time may be flagged. The seller will then have 30 days to correct the setting before Amazon begins managing it.
Do Not Change Everything to Same-Day Handling
Faster is not always more accurate.
Before reducing handling time, consider:
- Weekend staffing
- Carrier pickup schedules
- Warehouse cut-off times
- Supplier delays
- Made-to-order products
- Seasonal order volume
- Inventory stored at different locations
Your handling time should reflect what your operation can consistently achieve, not what happens on your best day.
The Bottom Line
Amazon is placing more pressure on FBM sellers to provide delivery promises based on real fulfillment performance. Sellers should audit their settings now instead of waiting for Amazon to make changes automatically.
Businesses managing large catalogs may benefit from professional Amazon account management services that connect listing strategy, inventory, advertising, and fulfillment performance.
Accurate handling times protect more than account health. They also help customers understand when their orders will actually arrive.
